Wideband debacle...
I ordered the DIY-WB kit and I've been looking for a sensor, but at Autozone and NAPA they both list 4-wire sensors for the VX. I even looked it up on both of their sites...what is the deal with this? Does it possibly ground through the body and not need one of the wires (seems improbable, but I've got my fingers crossed. If not, does anyone have a DEFINITE, but cheap(er) part number for a Bosch or NTK sensor?
I've got 15730, 15710, 15734 and all are 4wire...

don't have a number but I would try to find someone who had a vx and did a swap and buy theres i'll bet you could get one for $20
ps it defifntly needs 5 wires because its not a true O2 sensor they have another name I think its air fuel ratio meter

I believe they are both o2 or more accurately EGO (exhaust gas oxyen) sensors, but the wideband is able to correctly read over a wide range, while the standard type is only accurate around 14.7 a/f ratio.
Thanks, but I'm really looking for a new one...though, if it was $20, I'd jump on it. The cheapest I've found is $170, or so, but I'm not even sure it's a 5wire, since it's in the same category as the false idols...

Find a 5 wire one and go the parts store and say you see this stupid **** this came off of my 95 honda civic vx. good luck, sometimes parts idiots irritate the hell out of me
I'm pretty sure that you have to get a specific wide-band sensor. The stock one has four wires because it's heated, and I don't know what a fifth one would be for off the top of my head. But, a stock-type sensor has a smaller voltage range and isn't as accurate as ion_four said. The stock one is only for knowing if it's running stoich, nothing else. A WB is for actual tuning and knowing the exact A/F ratio.
I highly doubt there's an actual WB O2 sensor for $20--or even less than $150 for that matter.

not all have 4wire, vx and hx are the wideband NTK sensors you need.

Thanks for the replies, but some of you need to work on your reading comprehension...
I realize you can't buy a new wideband sensor for $20 (and that was never implied), I also realize that one such sensor came on the VX and HX, as well as some unknown VW's.
What I want to know is if someone has a 100% legit part number for a cheap (less than $150) new wideband, 5wire, UEGO sensor...I've heard rumors of ones being had for $60-70...

My mistake, though I was mostly referring to the general discussion of what cars they came on, and how I should bring one in to show them and the explanation and the yaya...if I had one to bring in, why would I need one, assuming it's not broken? I mean, look at the post after yours...$745 is not cheap, therefore not helpful and that's not even the price for the sensor, but for the whole unit (I'm not even sure it includes the sensor)....
Thankyou to brainwo for the links, but those prices are sadly out of my ballpark...

i dont know if you've looked at recent posts regarding this topic (like the one started by BigMoose) but they are definately becomming extinct. so if you absolutely need one, then you'll have no choice but to pay 200-300. unfortunately supply and demand are working against you.
