Because they were 9 times out of 10 overrevved past their capacity.....or they were not built correctly (correct parts, builder error, whim of god.....)

improper construction, tuning, blueprinting, oil leaks. there are millions of ways why some dont last. this has been covered a ton of times, a motor is only as good as the builder and the parts that are being used. they can be just as reliable as a stock motor. try searching lsvtec in the search function, you will see posts more indepth about it
usually oil lines weren't placed right or something like that. also the LS with the Vtec head... run'z really really hot! and break's down ur oil quicker... espcially if u r running boost. thus for cutting ur engine's life in half.

well thats wrong...they are very reliable when built and tuned properly, thats all it comes down to.

Has anyone tried using an oil cooler? They aren't that expensive, and seems like a good mod for an engine that runs hella hot.

I would not guess anything but improper building or parts to cause a warmer than usual LSVT engine compared to any other engine.
If your engine (which ever configuration it may be) is overheating to the point of breaking down the oil...them something else is wrong.
Plain and simple alot of H-T members have built these engines. All the information you could possibly want to know about them are in H-T somewhere. If you look at all of the information and make your own educated choices you will be fine. Besides mistakes along the way only help you learn the subject better.
I also suggest to ignore the ever frequent comments thrown in there like "LSVtecs don't last" etc. If the post does not add any technical data or reasoning to back it up...it is probably complete BS - IMO

"Why dont LSVTEC last" is kinda like saying "Why didnt my internally-stock motor with a turbo boosting to 1 bar last???"
..and the comment about "it wasnt meant to be" also applies to forged pistons and any aftermarket part! Hey, if forged pistons worked then honda wouldve made it like that!
just because HONDA didnt make it doesnt mean it wont work/last!! HONDA didnt make a TURBO for the LS motor either.....
