Because they are held at max. load for a period of time. If you could load a WHP dyno for full load for 30 sec. at peak BHP your headers would turn red (1350 F) also.

Some people will retard the timing for those dyno shots.It's more dramatic.

i had the same thing happen to my header.. was bcos of fuel was too lean during tuning. but i have a question, would the properties of the header changes after that? i mean,will the header be less durable?i dont know how to really explain this.

Most of the shots you would see of glowing headers are during full throttle durability testing that OEM's do. They put the drivetrain on the dyno and run them at full throttle for days at a time. They also dim the lights in many cases, which shows it off alot more. If you watch endurance racing, during the night portions, the entire exhaust systems are glowing red, including the tips.

It just so happens that these particular headers are extremely thin wall, and thus are much more likely to reach a temperature where they will glow.
