sorry i know this has been covered a million times. but im looking for some help. i did a search and found some info, but im still looking for more info. i have a 98 gsr and there is a whining noise coming form the timming belt area. i tired to loosen it. i thought i did it correctly but maybe not. what would be the correct way to loosen it? also could it be a bad tensioner, or maybe something else? i dont leak any coolant and my temp doesnt fluctuate. anyhelp would be appreciated thanks

 

do u have cam gears...if u do what kind are they???

also...a whining noise could mean a couple things...check ur tensioner pulley..the bearing might need oil or might be failing....also check ur water pump as a dying water pump could have the tendency to make that kind of noise...good luck finding it

 

nope no cam gears its stock. i have a feeling im gonna have to take everything apart.. not looking forward to doing it.

 

do u have all of the timing belt covers on??? if u do, it only takes like 2 minutes to take that cover off...once its off it will be very easy to pinpoint where the noise is coming from

 

yes all covers are on. but im thinking bc of all the power steering, a/c and alt belts its gonna take me a little bit to get everything off. unless there is a easier way?

 

oh i didnt know u had ps or ac.....im so used to my crappy car lol...sorry i dont know any other way but to check em one by one...

 

ya it sucks having all that **** but its my dailey driver so im gonna keep it. well looks like im tearing it all off to take a look. thanks
