Default where do I tap block for water temp guage?

I just got my Autometer water temperature guage and it came with a 1/2" NPT fitting that needs to be tapped into the engine somewhere where its probe will be able to read coolant temp. It says you can do it where the stock sensor is, but I am afraid of getting metal shavings in the engine when I do it, and it is hard to get to. Is there an easier way to do it that I am not seeing, would the upper or lower radiator hose housing attachment work, which one has the coolant coming out from the engine, not into it? It is a B18B1 incase anyone has done it on thier LS engine and has a pic for me or something.

ummm drilling and tapping would be devastating to your motor. use a combo of fittings to run off the stock sensor hole. get the various fittings at a hardware store or auto parts store or a boat store

The stock location looks like 1/4" NPT and the probe sticks out of the autometer fitting like 1", and I dont even know if that big *** probe (<--haha) will fit in the 1/4" stock hole. If I get a fitting to adapt 1/4" to the 1/2" I dont think the probe will fit inside it, or if it does it might not be in far enough to get a good reading from coolant flow. I know somebody has put one on thier engine, just tell me how you did it. I could put a "T" in one of the smaller heater hoses, but I'd have to have my heater on for coolant to flow through it and get a correct reading. This ***** too confusing for me.
