when chipping ECU, what do the capacitors in C51 and C52 do?
I was told I didn't need to put solder them in when chipping my P75 ECU. I was only told I need 27C256 socket, and eprom, 74HC373, and jumper #1. Any info on what the capacitors do exactly? thanks.
They could be used for a number of things.... block any DC voltages (filter out noise), ground coupling to reduce ground loops.....
They are used as a filter, but I've never run into a situation where running without them caused a problem (as I have heard from others). I'll test one without caps and our emulator when I get a chance.

They are decoupling capacitors that filter the voltage supply for the chips. Their value is .01uf and at 20 cents each why not use them.
Just jump J1 and run the resistor on R54 along with the 74HC373. The capacitors are not need as evidence by Hondata no longer supplying them in their socketing hardware.

Then why did Denshigiken and IPT use them on every ECU to come from the factory with an external ROM?

Go ahead and solder them in, it will give you a warm fuzzy feeling deep inside. That's the only reason why I add them.
Sorry to bring this back up, but I was banned...in the mean time.
So I'm guessing from what everybody has said here is that I definately do not need the solder in the capacitors..but it seems like nobody knows what effect they have when having them/not having them. I pulled my ECU a few days ago...just to look at it before I go ahead and take it to my friends to get it socketed and everything. I'm still kind of lost as to where or what I should jump..#1 to, and where is C51 or C52 anyway? thanks.

Jim Truett - are right.
c51, c52 are power filters. I't mean what at some time, when eeprom reading/writing it's need stable voltage.

Anyone know the DLC Pin outs for 1997 Honda Accord??
My accord won't communicate for the stupid OBDII test. Passes emissions and the ECU is fine. The manual DTC tests out fine.
I want to confirm the pins, continuity and voltage if possible any suggestions??
Thanks.
