Default Wheel and Tire Weight Poll

After wrestling between 16" and 17" rims for my 00' Si, I decided on 17's. Weight and ride quality were important but so were looks. I really like 17's on 99'-00' Civics.

Anyway, when I got them, I weight them against my stock 15's here's what they weighed:

Stock 15" w/ 195/55/15 - 35lbs

17" Rage 5.0 (made by Konig) w/ 205/40/17 - 40lbs

I want to know if this setup is considered Light, Moderate or Heavy, and do you think that it would cause a noticeable difference> Thanks

An increase in unsprung weight is generally bad, But you're not likely to notice 5lbs per wheel that much if at all. Here is another great link I found that may come in handy to anyone who reads this thread:

Huge list of wheels, sizes, and weights http://home.earthlink.net/~cvlocas/wheels.html

You will notice if you put the car on the track with a before and after.
Cornering will be better but, there was no need what so ever for new rims. IMO.

Well, the best thing would be to get your 17s for street and then use the 15s with some race rubber for track use.

You answered your own question... even though you breifly considered the weight factor, looks were more important to you. There's nothing wrong with that, but there IS a difference with some 20lbs of additional unsprung weight, in addition to greater rotational inertia. Will you feel it? Hard to say, it depends how sensitive you are, but you haven't made your car any faster by going to 17's. For comparison, my SSR 16's with 205/45/16 P7000's are 34lbs or so and my Kosei K1's with Hoosier 205/50/15's are about 31 lbs.

or get a lightweight forged wheel like the CP-35s or the TE-37s... both are about 15 lb. for a 17" wheel... and if you get the right tire, you can keep your wheel / tire combo under 30lbs. / corner.

cp-35 is the cast version and weighs more than the cp-035 which is the forged version.

heh, thats not killer heavy... like when I had Tantrums in 18".
-->with tires it was almost 50 lbs a corner!

Now I have 15" rotas with Advan AO32R.
--> weighs a dinky 28 lbs a corner, YAY!
