I have both of these 2 timing gears that go on the crank for a B16. How do I know which one to use? Sorry about the length of the link. I don't know how to copy pics to messege boards or make shortcuts for url's.

Did you look at the pic? There is a gear that goes on the crankshaft that drives the timing belt. The new one off the B16A2 is different than the one from the previous gen B16's. My B16 is a 1st gen PR3 but I am using parts from the newer gen as well. What I want to know is weather or not it matters which gear I use because I have both of them in my posesion. Is this clear now?

yep. much clearer.

compare and contrast - are they the same? what is the difference? will they both fit? what will happen if they are different?

so - what is the difference???

im pretty sure you should use the 1st gen one...

The difference is the little collar on the gear...the b16 obd2 has a magnetic sensor that reads that collar...I think its the cfk sensor...you siad you have obd1...so you dont need it...no harm done in using either one....the teeth count and size are identical.

I know what the physical difference is. The newer one has a sprocket type piece on the end of it which seems to be non functional. They will both fit. The engine cover is from a new gen. Same question still being asked...anyone else?

Thanks BoOsTeD_eK. I might end up using an OBD2 harness and comp. so I will go with the newer one.
