im taking a head apart and just seeing what do you guys or girls use to clean the valvetrain parts? is there some type of bath solution you let the parts soak in?

 

I use a cleaner called "Chemtool" you can get it from any auto store. Will eat up hands if you are in contact with it for long, it does the job though.....

i use the same, and for big parts i sumerge them in purple cleaner and water

 

hmmm "eat up hands" ill remember not to get any on me.....any parts i gotta worry about cleaning with that?

 

I've found some of the cleaners will also take paint off so keep it away from the body. I found out when cleaning a valve cover and the paint dissolved. Oops.

 

That chemical doesn't sound like it would be very good for the valve seals so be careful of them if you are not already replacing them.

 

Gasoline is an amazing cleaner, not the nicest stuff to mess with but effective

how about the valve guides? is it too harsh for it?

It shouldn't hurt them. Just lube them with some motor oil soon as your done cleaning.

 

What about putting it in tool cleaning machines? I saw someone do that on these boards, came out nice and shiney
