what oil?
my mechanic told me mobil 1 (5w-40) is too thin to use in my itr and i should use at least 10w as the b18c doesn't like it.
anyone got any expiriences or thoughts about this?

Your oil cap should have the recommended viscosity. Being in cold weather where you are, you want something with a low viscosity, to avoid cold start wear and tear. Unless you have an oil leak and he is recommending against synthetics, because the smaller molecule size.
I haven't got the stock oil cap or any manuals to tell me either..
I have been looking around on the net but haven't come across anything yet.
I'm in Melbourne, Australia... it's not so cold here.
He said I should use at least 10w-40 but I don't know what the stock item is so i'm a bit unsure now about what oil to use.

. Well if it doesn't get cold where you are, I would go with a 10W-30. Even if Honda recommends 5W-30, they will still OK 10W-30 in most cases. 10W-30 is better than 10W-40 in most cases because there are less viscosity modifiers in it.

all honda should use 5w-30 all year round, it will save you alot of gas mileage.
http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php is a great fourm about all types of oils.

if you want to save gas, then why not go to 0w-20.
also-- if youre a fan of clean internals- i did a little test at work one day. i took a sample of like 10 top name brands of oil and compared them. valvoline is the clearest conventional oil, and pennzoil is the darkest (purebase w/ dark additive pkg.) so thats one reason why im a valvoline fan.

pennzoil, valvoline, and castrol synthetics are made from a group III basestock, which essentially means it is made from dino oil that has been refined enough to be called a "synthetic".
mobil one is made from a group IV basestock which means it is a true synthetic.

5w30
you'll lose some horses with 1030 b/c it's thicker. i saw in a magazine with a civic and they did a tune up and changed oil with 1030, then dynoed it, numbers were lower than baseline, so they changed the oil, and the numbers jumped back up. i dunno how accurate that is though, i don't have any real experience.
