Complete compositional disclosure of brake friction material is rare because this information is treated as proprietary and manufacturers are not obliged in any way to disclose it to customers.
Asbestos was widely used in pads for its heat resistance, but due to health risks it has now been replaced by a mix of alternative fibers such as mineral fibers, cellulose, aramid, PAN, chopped glass, along with steel and copper fibers.
