Default What makes a good intake?

If I were to build an intake, would lengths, size, and type of material make enough difference?

more to do with tumble and gradual size reduction ... search fluid dynamics thats a good read for this stuff.

If you have a rough surface it would create turbulence. Which can decrease performance.

Many material can conduct heat, which in turn add warmth to the oxygen which decreases performance.

If the piping does not create enough velocity during the oxygen intake it can also decrease performance. Stick with AEM, they know what there doing...

Yes.

You wanna take under consideration all of the following factors:
Inlet location (cooler location would be best), filter element (diff types have more restrictions of air flow than others), piping material (aluminum seems best IMO, although it transfers alot of heat as oppose to steel but steel holds the heat longer I believe), pipe diameter (2.5" or 3",etc).
