What Honda engine is this?
i dont have a damn what that is? did it come with new cams caps becasuse i have never sceene cam caps like that. as for the motor my guess is ctr look at the cam caps i have never sceen a ctr motor in real life so that's my guess and it has a ctr/itr manifold.

that is not a b20 or b21 (3rd gen) prelude engine. there aren't enough cam bearings or whatever you call them. those engines have I1-6 and E1-6. there were only five on that one. they are also spaced a little differently on those engines. also, the cam gears on on the driver's side of the head, which they are not in that pic. so it must be something else. unless they just aren't attached to that head right now. but still, there is a cam bearing on the edges of both sides of the head for intake and exhaust, which definately isn't on that head.

I can tell you what it is not:
D16A/D16Z/D16Y/ZC
B16A/b16b/B17A/b18c/b20a/b/z
F20b/F20C/F22A/F22B/H22A/H23A
K20A
It looks like it has an ITR manifold though
Cam gears are on the wrong side.
My initial guess was a 3 stage vtec, but its twin cam and the three stage motor
is single cam.
I think its a toyota VVTL-i engine.
And judging by the cam layout, im about 99.9% sure it is.
Perhaps out of the celica

The cam gears are on the opposite side of the head, you guys. Unless the pic is reveresed it is not a Honda motor. Then again, the pic can't be reversed because the throttle body (or where is goes) is on the correct side. It's not a Celica motor, the intake manifold isn't right.
And it's not the K20 either.
And the SR20DE dopesn't have variable valve timing. The SR20VE does, but still it doesn't look like that either. The throttle body would be on the other side of the intake manifold...and they use timing chains, not belts (not in the pic anyways).
Can you take more pics? Does he have a block laying around that you can take pics of too?

I'm thinking it's a hybrid of some kind. I don't see this being a factory Honda engine at all. Possibly one of the h22 Race engines for the euro Accord Type R's that they use in the touring cup championships where the head is turned around backwards to allow the intake to be a ram air through the grill....
Just a guess.
Just a guess.
Its not a honda head.
It looks like someone grafted a honda manifold onto a non-honda head.

you are a true honda fan as it is clearly not a honda. I wish i had a price for you or some ****.its a 2zz-ge yamaha head. I will flowbench the ports soon to see if it will have better VEs against a B-series head.
Man, now that i examine that pic more, I dont know how I missed it.
The REAL intake manifold is sitting at the bottom with the fuel injector wires
right there in plain view.
The ITR manifold was a red herring....
So is that the celica motor? I dont know the new toyota classifications.
