What does a valve job consist of?
Due to some misfortune, my ITR may have damage to the valve seals, seats, etc. What does a valve job consist of and what parts does it commonly repair/replace? What is the going rate? Thanks.
Mine was 120, however I supplied all the parts, ie valves, seals. You'll prolly have your guides checked as well. What is usually done is the valve is ground (3,5 or radius angle) to match the seat and installed height. What you might want to do to find someone who knows what they are doing is go to your dealership and ask the techs who they send their heads to. That way you know your head is in good shape.
BTW the guys who did it are the folks my acura dealership sends their work to so you shouldn't be paying much over 120 (3 angle cut).
Hope this helps

Be wary of most machine shops- they charge extra for a basic 3 angle valve job- stating it as performance when it is standard. There are so many variables to name a price- some shops just blast a quick 45 degree cut and ship it. You will need to research machine shops for yourself- the dealership will have a list of who they use and this will be a good place to start. I would'nt recommend refacing exhaust valves- they burn easily enough- removing more material from them will increase the chance of this happening. ALso note- if new valves are to be used they will need to be ground too- I have yet to see a new valve that is perfectly round.
