Default what to do with a 99 ex shell?

hey i have the opportunity to buy a 99 ex civic 5spd white, with a blown motor for 800 dollars... first off is this a good deal and should i do it? according to the owner everything is in excellent condition his wife just never paid attention to the oil and ruined the car.

also what type of motor tranny combo would be a good fit for a 99 ex. im not looking to spend a lot just want to get it back on the road, but im not convinced if i want to put the a stock replacement engine back in. thanks for anyones help.

Check out the hybrid forum. You can put a B, H or K series motor in that chassis. Which is 'better' depends on your particular goals and budget.

Sounds like a decent deal to me. How much do you plan on spending on getting the car back on the road?

The car comes with a D16Y8.

Depending on how much you can find a replacement motor for, you will probably end up using most of your budget on replacement parts (timing belt, water pump, thermostat, clutch-parts which you should consider replacing before putting the new motor in) and fluids. You may have some left over for a few bolt ons.

would anyone reccomend me do this or just keep my 95 hatch and put the money into it instead? i just figured it would be cool to have such a newer car with a fresh engine....

with 3k would i be able to put any other "more powerful" engine in the 99 ex rather than the d16y8?

dude do whatever you want. What I can put a car together for wont be the same as what you can put a car together for. It varies from person to person and what your capable of. No one is going to tell you what car to keep or sell. If you have to ask anyone ask your parents or friends. People who actually know you. For $800 I would buy that shell in a heart beat, look locally and get a complete stock or even b18b swap for ~$400 (not hard to find if you know where to look), fix any little body damage or interior damage myself and flip and sell the car for ~$4000+ and make at least $2000 or keep it as a spare.
