what determins an engines operating temp?
i have been thinking about this... when an engine is going through R&D testing.....how do the engine builders determine the operating temperature? is that where optimum power is made? if so why do we always mess with it with radiators , high pressure caps , fan switches and thermostats that all change the temp?
The most horsepower is made at 220*F. But for emissions reasons the engine is usually run at a higher temp for better fuel vaporization.
