Default What could cause a BOV-type sound?

Okay. Whenever I take first gear up to 25mph, it makes this bov-type sound. It sounds like air being released from someplace. If I take first gear above 25mph, it still makes the noise at 25mph then kinda brakes up a little. The harder I get on it, the more crisp the sound. Or if I take first gear up really slow all the way to 25, it makes a big pshhhhhh sound too. It's probably a vaccum leak right?I'm jsut really curious to what is causing it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Oh yeah, it does it in 2nd gear too but not till around 60mph.

Do you have a CAI? I think you might be referring to the CAI whistle..

I do have a cai, but it's not a whistle. It's a strong pshhhhhhhhhhh sound like there is some kind of pressure being released from somewhere. I just don't know where it's being released from. My cai does whistle though when I'm driving, but this sounds totally different.

Does it make the sound when you shift gears or under accelleration?

What motor, what mods?

It makes the sound at 25 mph. It doesn't matter if I shift or not, it still makes the sound. And also, if I go really slow up to 25mph, it will make the sound too. It's like pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have a d16y7 with y8 head and y8 IM (mini-me). It actually started making the sound right after my mini-me was installed.

that would be the first place i would look ^^^^^ carb cleaner and let the car idle.....spray gaskets, sensors, etc.....when the idle changes, thats where your leak is.

that's wierd. And nice trying to sound out the "pshhhhhhh" a couple times on the internet. puts a real nice umph on the sound you are describing.

hehe. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try doing the carb cleaner method to see if there's a vaccum leak somewhere.
