what causes a tps code?

either it's bad or you need to adjust it to factory specs.

it is on a skunk2 throttle body... would that make a difference? also, the check engine light doesnt come on until you go into higher rpms... under normal driving its fine

My guess is going to be that the tps is out of adjustment.
Get a helms manual & a voltmeter. Probe the middle wire on the tps connector according to the helms manual. You will probably have to rotate the tps to get the tps voltage into spec.
