Default What is blueprinting?

I always hear people say they blueprinted their engine and I know TODA sells blueprinted parts, but what is this exactly?

Default Re: What is blueprinting? (undercoverSI)

Blueprinting is a process where an engine is machined to more exacting tolerances than what came from the factory. For instance: the ideal clearance of a given part may be .005 inches. The same part may have an acceptable range of clearance, say, .003-.007 inches. So the factory gets it within the acceptable range and calls it good. When you blueprint the motor, you would have the clearance brought to its ideal specification. HTH.
