What is this?
I checked out a couple of searches first but I cant get a clear answer so I thought I would as you all. My factory acura manual does not tell or show me what this sensor is. Its right next to the oil pressure sender unit, my guess would be the pcv valve?
Knock sensor.
PCV is a one way air vavle and nothing more no wires.
The knock sensor is strait up the block above the oil presser sensor.

But, that's Katman's so HA!
It may be the cooling fan switch. Does it have two wires. And is it where the plug that is screwed into the block shown in the pic. What year Teg is it? what engine?

Be careful!!! On the 88-91 (4th Gen Civic) its on the back of the block next to the oil pressure switch. 5th gen strated putting them on the thermostat housing. Check you facts!

The motor is a B18A LS/VTEC. The sensor is to the left of the oil pressure sending unit, just above it. It's a huge hex shape plug with a small hex shape nut-like device with an electrical connection. If you take it out you are staring into the water jacket. There's a big aluminum washer that seals this to the block. (The sensor on the right of the oil pressure sending unit (IIRC) is the big double pronged switch that is for the fans). The sensor we are trying to identify has a light green plug (similar to the Temp Water sensor) with two small prongs. We've searched high and low through a 1991 Acura Shop Manual and cannot find this sensor. I don't even think the manual makes reference to a knock sensor.
Also we've mapped out all water hose connections except one on the GSR head. It's the small outlet with the 1/2" OD hose next to the upper radiator hose where the coolent exits the head and heads over to the upper radiator. Could this be to where (I guess) GSRs run coolant to a device that sits under the oil filter? If it is, do I just block this off, since I do not have the oil cooling 'device'?
Thanks much, Dave K.

The sensor on this block (B18A) is in the position that the big plug is that's on the left of the oil pressure sending unit you've circled in the pic. Your pick shows it as a big hex plug next to the oil pressure sending unit. Our block has what I described in 'reply' (see earlier post) (big plug with small light green two wire connector).
Thanks, Dave K.

Folks, my Acura shop manual clearly shows a "Thermo Switch" sitting just above the oil pressure switch. This rather large switch as two large prongs sticking out of it. That's NOT the beast that is puzzling me. Off to the left of the oil pressure switch is the sensor/switch I'm trying to identify. In the picture posted by 10K2HVN, off to the left of the oil pressure sending unit is a plug. My B18A doesn't have a plug it has some kind of sensor or switch. I'll try to get a pic of it.
That block that you guys are looking at in this thread is a vtec block, you guys have a B18a, older b18a's 90-91 have the light green, 2 terminal fan switch to the left of the oil pres. switch, newer 94-up has the hex plug that you see in the pic. fan switches for these tegs are on the thermostat housing. Correct me if im wrong.
talkin about this thing???
Not the thing circled (i got this picture from http://www.c-speedracing.com) but that green sensor right???
Thats a LS block..just not sure which year but thats probably it..! problem solved!(?)

K, if that 'big allen wrench' is for coolent...then what about the *other* 'big allen wrench to the *right* of the oil filter???? this is a B20...

Yes!!! That's it. The sensor just to the left and slightly higher than the oil pressure switch, shown there in light green. It is NOT identified in my 1991 Acura shop manual. The other 'switch' sitting just above the oil pressure IS identified as a "Thermo Switch". The Thermo switch has much larger prongs(2) than the mysterious switch I'm trying to identify.
Thanks
Thanks

...im talkin about the one next to the oil-pressure switch in that picture..!
