You should do a few things differently..

First use weldels, not those threaded pipe fittings.

Second. Tig the manifold togather. MIG will not stay togather for very long.

Use ss filler material.

Thanks for the reply. We re did the entire mani. with a stick welder and really nice rod. Its strong as could be now, but not as nice looking, not that it was any nicer before, but ya know. Thanks again.

go to mcmaster and use these part numbers :

-43425k151
-7750k115
-43425k154

one of those part numbers is for a 12in straight pipe. this depends on how you want to make the manifold. i needed to use this cause i didn't use the "TEE"

http://photos.yahoo.com/jvh22a
there are some pics of a few of my manifolds. i have not uploaded the other ones yet.

what do you use to bend your piping, and i assume mig welds by the looks?.
heat or pipe bender? or bought...?

Not a problem. Stick probably lays down enough heat... I dunno... I tig everything. (I build alot of these)

in the pics there are 2 or 3 different manifolds. one i did real quick just to get a jig. usually i tig weld it all but if i don't have gas i use flux welding.

i don't use a bender. just 90 deg but pipes. then cut and weld. in one of the manifolds you will see a U-bend pipe. those are about $12.00 each(1 5/8 don't know the thickness but it is thick) the 90 deg bends are abou $5.50ea.

Flux core is a joke. Tig welding ownz...

Have you ever had one of the mig manifolds break?

Sorry not trying to start something with you but that statement makes you sound really ignorant, that is a false acquisition. Mig welds will hold a manifold together forever granted the metal: it all depends on how good of a welder you are.

Mig just is not good enough. YOu have to tig the manifold togather if you want it to last. I build these ******* things. I know what works and what doesn't.

Mig might last a month or so.

I really dont wana get into a fight, but once again that is a false statement. I also make exhaust manifold its not difficult at all, its very very easy specially if you make the log style, equal lenght is a different story. But I but a manifold when I was 15 for my brothers acura now it mine I and now 18 and I had to take it off cause my motor blew but now it on another car and still working, and yes it is mig. By the was what kind of metal are you using for that manifold in the pic, very very nice by the way.

Okay, maybe you have some mad freak mig welding skills. I don't know. Everything that I have seen mig welded togather cracks. I want to see a picture of your manifold.

The manifold is mild steel, with 308 ss filler rod.

Try it if you want..... diy or diy correctly, you aren't affecting me any by using mig.

If you really want to make it strong with the mig, use stainless wire, and straight argon for shield gas. It should be better then regular mig wire.

true..good point...why is 100% argon better than the 75/25 co2 mix..? allows for better heat?

Well... I can't tell you exact reasons, but I can tell you what I have observed from using both gasses.

Argon co2 (steel mix) is nasty to use with the tig. You get splatters, and wierd powdery stuff...

Straight argon is good for ss, and aluminum. If you don't touch the tungsten to the weld it will be golden colored, and no wierd stuff.

If you are just using regular mild steel wire in the mig then you can just run straight co2.

Straight argon for anything other then mild steel. So yes, if you are using ss filler use argon.

I have heard that you can mig aluminum with co2 only, but I have not tried it yet so I can't say how it is.
