Default Welded block durability?

So after several months hiatus from touching the Prelude, I decided to start taking stuff apart and cleaning up the garage. I was looking at the sleeved H22A1 block I have that has split mains and was wondering if the mains could be welded up without warping/damaging the sleeves.

The machine shop that resurfaced/hot tanked the block was the one that mentioned it to me because I hadn't noticed it. He suggests that the person that originally installed the sleeves split the mains because the 2 mains that cyl#2 sits on are both split straight down the middle.

So my question is, can this be welded? And if so, any repercussions I should know ahead of time or any special precautions I should take?

sorry haven't had a chance to take pictures.

Not the caps themselves, imagine the part of the block where the caps bolt onto. It's the part that the cylinder sleeve sits on.

I think your best course of action is to get a new block. The metal at the mains is pretty thick. I don't think the weld would penetrate it all the way without grinding material away and build it back up. I don't see how you could do this and not warp the **** out of the block. I cant say for a fact that this could not be successfully done. This is just an opinion.

That's the conclusion my machinist came to too, but I'm going to double check tomorrow again with him just to get some more light on it. The reason I ask is because there was someone who was interested in buying it knowing that it had 2 splits down the mains. I thought for a moment and second-guessed my machinist but I guess i'll take the person up on his offer and let him try to repair the block.
