Default Weird noise coming from under dash area possibly...HELP

I was driving last night and noticed a noise from under my dash from 3550-3650 RPMs. It's like a sporatic plastic on metal noise. Goes fast then slows down and so on, kinda hard to explain. It's definitly coming from the driver side as well. I don't have any type of climate control in the car, it's gutted under the dash, but I do have my MSD box and SS coil under there. The setup I have is a Dart block with Eagle crank and rods with CP pistons. I don't think the noise is coming from the engine because I had someone hold it at 3600 and couldn't hear anything. There is no heat shield or anything under the car. it's a HyTech header straight to a Buddy Club Spec II exhaust. Any suggestions on what to check or what may make this noise? It seemed to be more audible from the steering column area but I don't know. I've heard about timing belt tensioners making noise as well though. Any advice here? TIA.

I had a similar thing happen to me before from under my dash. Took me weeks to find out what it was but finally found it. It was one of those little metal clips that screws attach to to keep something screwed onto your dash. I had one for my change box and it was just hanging off the edge and making a vibrating / clicking sound when I got into higher RPMs or higher speeds. I finally just started to whack my dash on the highway going about 110kmph and it fell off onto the floor. The second that happened the sound went away and I never had the problem again.

Just make sure all your screws and everything is tight and in place. It might just be something stupid like that.

I sure as hell hope that's what it is. I'm gonna take the cluster out and drive around with it out for a little while to see if I can hear where it's coming from better. I just hope it's nothing in the engine.

When you are driving aroud give the general area of the noise a few taps in a few different places. See it it makes the problem better or worse. It might help you locate where the sound is coming from.

Tonight I took the cluster out and a bunch of crap off the dash and couldn't tell where it was coming from. I thought it might have been coming from the bay. The timing belt was SUPER tight, sounded like a guitar string it was so tight. The tensioner had blue from the Greedy timing belt rubbed off on it. It also hadd some play in it, I think it may have been coming from there.
