Default Weird ECU chip problem

I got adventurous and bought one of the eBay Skunk2 chips. I soldered everything in and the car runs fine with no CEL’s, but the Cruise Control light is on. The problem is that the car doesn't have Cruise Control, so I can't turn it off!.

Did I do something wrong with the install??

I know I could pull the light from the dash, but I’d rather fix it right.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
G

After a little more research, I think the ECU thinks it is lighting the "Shift up Indicator Light". Since I replaced the cluster with an EX unit, the cruise control bulb is in the same place as the SUIL on the CX cluster. Still a problem, but now I'm thinking it might be the chip afer all.

if the chip is causing the problem. then to fix it right is to get another chip. or talk to the seller, he might be able to help you out.

Yes, I think it's the chip now. The seller wasn't much help though. He suggested pulling the bulb from the cluster.

Just to keep testing, I had a 3rd p28 that was automatic and I did the thing with RP17 & 18 to convert to 5-speed. The dash light stayed off.

Then I pulled the jumper off of one of the chipped ECU's and the light stayed off too.

The only thing I can conclude is that the program on the chip is turning on the light. I think it has something to do with the manual/automatic conversion. Pin D18 on the ECU is used for the "shift indicator" light on some MT models and is also used for the [tranmission] interlock control unit on AT models.

Since there are no CEL's it seems like part of the program is OK, but the other part didn't get the message that the car wasn't an automatic. The seller says he's never had a problem with the program, so now I don't know what to do.

I'm worried for you. Detonation, running low on oil, and cruise control lights are the three things most likely to blow up Honda engines. You should sue the seller for another engine, since the damage has already been done.

It's some bit of code in the base program causing your cruise light. Does the chip otherwise function the way you wanted it to? If yes, pull the associated ECU wire and forget about it.
