Default vtec problems

ok I have a 1989 civic w/ d16z6 motor swap and junkyard turbo kit. Iam still using the D16a6 ecu. I recently installed an Apexi V-afc. For some reason it doesnt sound like vtec is engaging. I dont feel it or hear it. On the V-AFC it says VTI off. Does that mean that the vtec is off? does anyone know what VTI off means?Another problem iam haivng is when i go WOT and let it rev high the check engine light comes on and its a code for map sensor. After check engine light comes on the car runs like crap. But if i turn the car off and then on its back to being ok. Iam also throwing a code for the vehicle speed sensor, but my speedo is hooked up and it reads acurrately. I appreciate any helpful response. thanks.

okay for your engine light for the map sensor you need a missing link, stock map cannot read boost or it gives a cel.
as for the other problems your having, im sorry but i dont know the answer on those.
