Vtec problems

Vtec problems
After vtec kicks in it either shakes the car or the car dies down till it comes out of vtec. The cel comes on. It says there is a vtec system malfunction. Does anyone have any clue what is wrong?

The vtec solenoid might not actually be engaging. I'd check the solenoid to make sure it clicks. If you can get your hands on a spare to try, even better.
