Vtec Head On JDM B20B
Question: I wanted to verify some information.......I had a speed shop do my swap on my car and i asked them the other day what I needed to put a vtec head on the JDM B20B. They told me all I needed was a stock vtec head either from a B16 B18 or B18C5....which ever. They told me if i was running all stock parts, cams, valves, etc.....and stock bottom end it will work fine. Now I thought and read on this board and all over the internet that you had to at least build the bottom end or do something to make it the vtec head work on the non-vtec motor? Is this true? Let me know...
you need to watch the valve reliefs on the b20 pistons... they should make it but again SHOULD
you need to run an external oil line for the vtec head.. kits for this ususally run about 100 bux
dont expect to rev the **** outa that thing.. if you ahvent touched the bottom end of the b20 i wouldnt rev it over 7
with arp rod bolts you SHOULD be fine to go to 8 but its your motor.. if you half *** a b20/vtec and over extend the motors capabilities you will destroy it
i say the weak parts of a b20 are 1 rod bolts 2 head (not applicable in a vtec setup) 3 lack of girdle 4 rods 5 pistons and finally 6 long stroke

Cool....thanks for the reply.......so i guess they are right and it would work fine....just don't rev it too much.....so will i see a big difference w/ the vtec head eventhough i shouldn't rev it pas 7.....
Anyone here on the board do this yet.....just straight all stock parts...B20 w/ full stock vtec head? No aftermarket parts but maybe bolt on's such as Intake/Header/Exhaust?
Let me know and ur opinions.

Its been done successfully by a lot of people. Why not just turbo a non-vtec b20. They dont like such high rpms anyway, just shove a **** load of air at low rpms then. It'll still be a torque monster.
if your gonna build it build it right. thats my philosophy. (meaning pistons, rods, etc)
but you will have no problems slapping a b16 head on a b20 block (or b18c or itr)
you should be fine with the valve relifes even with an ITR head.
just dont rev the **** out of it.

Kool.......Thanks all for the replys. But your right i will be spending more money opening up the engine twice to put internals in there later.....So why not just do it all at once....guess for now i'll just do all the bolt ons. I am just itchin to go faster now now now. i was thinking of goin turbo but then it just kills me sleeper effect
