Vtec controller
I am thinking of purchasing a vtec controller for my 92 h22a eg. I know that there must be a down side of having vtech activate too early.
Do anyone know the downside of having vtec kick-in really early?

VTEC x-over too low = bogging your motor = less power... Excluding the P72 ECU, I think Honda did a pretty good job of engineering a good VTEC x-over... Even on the B18C1, if you add say a CTR/ITR IN cam and you leave the VTEC at the stock ~4400rpm it feels like ****... Bump it up to ~5200-5700rpm without the IABs and it's a world of difference... Hope this helps, Latez
I can just speak from experience. I tested 2 ecus - one ecu was at 5600 the other at 4400. On the butt dyno, the lower vtec point felt great. Car made more noise earlier, felt like I was going a lot faster, I loved it. Then I took it to a real dyno - the lower vtec point I lost 10lbs of torque and 3hp until the motor got to 5600rmp. Both ecus had identical curves after that. When I drove it again on the street, I noticed the car made more noise but it wasn't pulling harder. Talked to other people with vtec controler too and they said the lower vtec didn't help 1/4 mile times. My opinion is don't mess with it - you're car's pretty fast as it is. Honda did a great job setting the vtec point at its most optimal place. Enjoy your car as it is.
Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that there was a reason for it's setting. I have a stock p13 ecu. It sounds like it kicks in at 5000 rpm but is it a little after?
well most guages in our cars arent as acurate when raced ya know. Just leave it cause v-tec with no fuel activating to early you have to get it properly tuned just leave it and go and upgrade elsewhere. Its safer that way.
