im looking at buying a digital dash for my eg that works with bikes and cars , it's got a Gear Indicator too so would show what gear im in . how could i wire it up ?

I'm almost positive that the VSS just pulses at a certain rate for the speed, regardless of what gear the car is in.

gear position, is likely a calculation of rpm, vehicle speed. based on the known drive ratio.

the VSS produces one pulse that indicates a certain amount of rotation of the main gear of the trans.
the ECU (and cluster) calculates the pulses per minute and uses that info to show speed.
the ECU uses the trans ratio setting in the ECU to calculate the speed vs RPM to determine gear.

if you're looking to display what gear you're in, neptune/eCtune with a tunerview works very well.

as far as an input to your setup, depending on what that device uses for an input... you may be able to setup an output to react to gear in neptune, eCtune or even crome.

I just checked Crome and Crome gold, it's not an option.
I don't have eCtune or neptune handy to check if it's possible with them.
