Default violent shaking on acceleration

seems like i havent posted for years. the questions are getting hella technical from you guys. my question would belong in the beginers forum if they had one. anyways

my sister has a 94 accord. when im driving the car, it shakes. its almost as if the wheels are going to fall off. first the prob started on the freeway in gears 3-5 (only on acceleration). now it happens from gears 1-5 (again only on acceleration). at first i thought the tires were unbalanced and the car needed alignment. but i fixed that, and found it wasnt the case.

the only other idea i had was that one of the engine mounts might be cracked or worn out, but when i took it to the mechanic he indirectly called me an idiot. i dont know, maybe i am. what do you guys think is the matter with the car?

TIA

what did the mechanic discover to indirectly call you an idiot?

did you ever confirm your engine mounts were okay?

Sounds like the motor mount bushings are shot -- possibly the driver side and/or the rear mount.

Look at 'em and check the condition -- oh and call the mechanic dude a dumbass, and go somewhere else.

well the mechanic rolled his eyes and looked at the other mechanic and said "he said it was the motor mounts" in a smart *** way. but whatever, i can do the work myself.

about the motor mounts, i suspected it was it, but i couldnt really tell just by looking at them. i was too lazy to try to take em out, but i guess i have no other option now. thanks for the help guys

So after he rolled his eyes at the other guy, did he actually CHECK your engine mounts??

You don't have to take them out, but you can grab the valve cover & try to shake the engine. There's supposed to be some flex in the mounts, but the engine shouldn't bang around or hit something.

How about drive axles? Either the inner or outer CV joints can get real loose, that can cause shaking on acceleration.

Maybe the engine's misfiring under load? Spark plugs & tune-up stuff?
