Valve Adjustment Question...
Yeah thanx man.. I know c-speed racing... I also know lots of online tutorials leave some of the little **** out... So in your opinion, if I follow this tutorial along with my hemls manual, I should be fine?
take your time. once you loosen that first valve there's no turning back!!!
seriously, it's not that bad. just be sure you're measuring in the right place, and that the pistons are indeed at TDC. This is IMPORTANT!!! I would look in the spark plug holes to verify this since the cam gears aren't the most accurate (you can look at them at different angles
)
use the bigger and smaller sizes....for instance the bigger sizes (above spec) shouldn't fit. Just take your time and be sure of what you set.
Good luck

It is actually more acurate to line up the cam gears and adjust the valves rather than looking for the piston at TDC. Lets say the t-belt were off a couple teeth and you just looked for TDC at the pistons, then the cams would not be in alignment for the correct valve adjustment.

its not a bad job either, trying it for the first time is a great learning experience! soon you'll want to install a LSD in your tranny! take your time and do it right!
*and I wish I had three hands like that guy in the pic!!!!
I used a thin rod from a model rocket launching pad to determine if they were at true TDC.
Sometimes the nuts on top of the rockers get stuck to ****...so u can use a ratchet to loosen them a little.
so do women

check the clearances before you loosen them. if they are in spec, you don't have to touch them. the last time i did the adjustment, I only had to adjust one out of 16.

Thank you all for the advice... More is welcome... What will happen if say the valve is adjusted slightly off...
What sort of damage am I risking?
as stupid as this may sound, make sure you are only using one feeler gauge at a time. My dad was checking clearances with the .005 and .004 stuck together. I couldn't believe that the clearances were that tight until I checked the feeler gauges. When they get alittle oil on them, they stick like crazy.
I've done mine twice and both times, the clearances were really good. Just take your time and always check the clearances after you tighten up that nut. Sometimes that screw moves just a little and throws everything off. Good luck
