Default Valve adjustment problem

i was doing valve adjustment on my car today, stock cams, .006 intake and .007 exhaust and on cylinder #4, exhaust side, distributer side stud adjusts, but the guages dont fit. I tried turning it all the way left and right, it seems to have the same clearence. I can push the valve down to make it fit but that doesnt do any good.

Why doesnt it adjust?

Don't mean to make you sound like a idiot but you do know you adjust the stud that's on the rocker arm and not the actually nut. The nut is to tighten the stud down to the position you want the clearence it needs to be.

If that's not the case then maybe the stud's thread is stripped on the rocker arm.
