Valve adjustment issue: car stalls
Whats up H-T,
I am well aware there are plenty of threads out there dealing with valve adjustment issues and I've searched and read all of them.
Prior to performing the valve adjustment, I didn't have the problem described below, however my valve train was very loud..
So I have a c5 in a ej8. To my understanding the specs at .006-7 intake and .007-8 exhaust and of course I set each cylinder to TDC before doing so. I started by sticking my feeler guage as flat as possible between the rocker arm and the top of the valve assembly and I adjusted my valves making sure that the smaller spec would fit with slight to moderate drag, and the larger of the two specs WOULD NOT fit.
After i finished I checked and rechecked all my clearances and torque specs at least 3-4 times, put everything back together and started her up.
What a difference.. Now she's purring like a kitten and the motor runs like a champ!
The next day, I start the car for work and everything is normal, car idles fine and everything. As soon as i got to a stop sign and put my foot on the clutch the idle dropped to about 2-300 before the car stalled.
I have not yet taken it apart cause I have not had the opportunity to recheck the valve clearances while the car is cold, but im pretty confident I adjusted them correctly.
I haven't tried 'resetting the idle/ecu' cause I'm not sure I believe in that..I mean does it really work?
What do u guys think? Are the valves too tight?

Ok, ok..I believe in the idle relearn process.
Thread closed..
EDIT: Woke up this morning and the same thing happened...it stalled when the engine was at normal operating temp.

If you've turned the locknut after you've checked the clearance, you could have tightened the clearance. The tappet likes to turn with the lock nut.
I don't rely on a torque wrench to tighten the locknuts.
Re-inspect the clearances.

Yeah, I guess that's what i'm going to have to do.
I definitely checked all clearances after torquing the lock nuts back down, but well see.

Okay, so if you dont use a torque wrench, how do you ensure the lock nut is tight enough? by hand?
