Default valve adjustment

is it required that after you put on new cams, springs, and retainers that you get a valve adjustment?

Yes I would at least take the time to check them all. I would have to say they will probably be off. What ever cam you choose will ( or should ) have the spec sheet to help you set the lash
Good Luck

I dont know about smoking a little, but it could definitely cause it to be noisy, depending on the type of noise. loose valve lash will make the engine very clicky.

yes valve adjustment is necc. was a valve job done? if so the valves will sit in the seats farther causing the valve lash to slightly loosen. as far as the smoke i would tend to say valve stem seals
