Is a VAFC worth it??
Ok, so Im offered a Apex-i VAFC for 250 bucks.
My question is, is this computer worth it? Will I see and feel a difference worth 250?
My set up is as follows:
96 civic ex
98 B18C1
DC 4-1
AEM short ram
test pipe
2.25" exhaust
ACT XTSS
Clutchmasters Flywheel
very soon to have OBD2-OBD1 conversion with Skunk 2 ECU.
Any of you experienced with this HELP!!!

dude first off your conversion harness will take care of the wiring for obd2-1
but on the vafc i would say it could be worth it. depending on if your staying daily driven or not, or if you plan on going fi eventually on that car not necessarly that motor...
usually the biggest gains come from them when you have valve train done and the vtec position needs to be changed because of the different cam profiles. the stock ecu does a decent job of optimizing the stock cams. my personal experience has been getting a chip for your ecu ( $20-40) plus installation $40 and use the rest of the money towards radius bars/traction bars. fwd cars have a hard time with traction when torque gets even remotely high, ask pretty much anyone man
derek

I have a OBD2 computer now... I can hook up the VAFC to that. But Ill eventually be putting in the OBD2 to OBD1 conversion so I can run a chipped P-28.
ive been very happy with mine, gave biggest gains out of intake, exhaust (close), pullies. i use it with an "obdii work around" (www.ntpog.org), which helps. I dont plan on doing anything magor (fi, etc) soon so its good for me. you can damage your enigne though, but im geussing you know not to lean it out too much...
its a long story but last time i was at the dyno i didnt get a good baseline ( ( | ) hole shop owner's dyno wasnt calibrated...) but another guy (arax) with the same setup was putting 178/138 to the wheels (preludes).

if you were gonna get a new ecu and a conversion harness anyway your so close to being in hondata pricing.. its like 300 plus the cost to have your ecu chipped so basically like 100 bux more and youll have a standalone...(sortof)
No one around here is into Hondata, and no one tunes them.
ANYONE wanna sell a VAFC for 250 or less??
