VAFC question!!
I went in for a smog test today. I passed the Function Check and Emissions Test, but failed in the Visual Inspection.
I have to fix 2 things. A Fuel leak in the Fuel Rail, and the VAFC.
I ordered a new fuel rail, so that should be comming soon. The problem is the VAFC.
Now my question is... if I unplug the VAFC from my ECU, will it save the settings it has right now? Or will it go back to the initial settings??

I was reading a post here, and the person was asking about the previous owners settings, and how they were still in the unit, and if it would be safe to run them. But I don't recall if the unit is hooked up to a constant power for memory (I think it is a key on 12v, and my manual is...somewhere) I would say it it stores them even when disconnected.
I have a vafc and have disconneted it many times, the settings don't get deleted the vafc keeps the settings stored. However if you just disconnect your vafc then your car wont run right unless your using a harness and just remove the harness.
you mean the harness clip in the middle?
I'm gonna goto the smog shop and unclip the VAFC from the middle harness RIGHT before the smog test. I hope that will work.

you cant just unplug it and go, you have to disconect the vacf harness fron the ecu and put it back to stock. THe VAFC will keep your settings forever unless you reset it in the menu with it powered up so dont worry about losing your settings.

no not the harness clip in the middle, I meant an aftermarket harness which is used to install a vafc without soldering anything. The Middle clip thats used to extend the vafc wiring can't just be disconnect, if it is your car wont operate correctly. If you want to take the vafc out of your car you have to unistall it, meaning you have to unsolder and resolder all the connections if you don't have one of those aftermarket harnesses.

Yes, what he said.
You can't just unhook the VAFC from the harness and expect your car to run properly.
You MUST uninstall the VAFC completely, ie. unsolder and resolder.
IMO it would be too much of a pain to do that, just hide it under your dash somewhere. It shouldn't be too hard to hide depending on where you have it mounted.

oh ok.
I went ahead and hid it under the dash along with all the wiring under the carpet. I hope he doesn't check the ECU and dig under the carpet to find any wiring.

Just as long as your not going to a state ref. you I don't believe you have anything to worry about the smogger guy looking at your ecu or wirings going to it.
OT though are you going to get your smog done with your stock cat. or do you have an aftermarket one?
