Default Unhooking battery with electronics...

If i have a S-AFC set to whatever, and maybe some other things with settings, is it ok to unhook the battery to work on the car? Meaning, would I lose all those settings or does it store it in memory?

If it does go bye bye, then how can I keep the info stored? I heard about using a 9V battery wired to a power plug thing, that would go into the 12V socket in your car, which would provide enough power to the ecu and whatever so that settings would be retained?

Anyone?

Yes, you could use a back-up type battery to save information, but I don't think a 9 volt would have enough current to last too long. BTW, the cigarette plug is not connected to the main battery wiring with the ignition off, in most cases.

You state you would like to disconnect the battery to work on the car. That's good, but putting another battery on the system kind of negates that.

i have a VAFC and when i did my swap a few weeks ago. the settings were still retained
i initialized them of coarse cause of the new motor but i must have had the battery disconnected for a good 2 weeks and it stores the settings, as long as you dont initialize the settings your in good hands

ok, well that's why I say 9v battery , so that it wouldn't be enought juice to hurt you but enough to save electronic settings and ecu maps and all that
