Default Is this true?

My friend tells me that you don't need any O2 sensors if you have a chipped or Stand alone ECU, is this true?

Setting the map to run without the primary O2, your engine will be directly running on the maps in the ECU. If the maps are tuned perfectly you will have no problems.
BUT if they are off a little bit or something happens that causes the the car to run lean it will damage the engine quickly. A primary O2 would remove this chance.

Seriously... run the primary O2 (first one) there is no reason to not run it.

I suppose that you could make it run on preset maps. (I think that is open loop.) However, 99.999999999999% of people would use the primary O2 sensor or a wideband O2 sensor.

He told me that the guy chipping and tuning his ECU told him its pointless to run an o2 sensor.

Lots of people run open loop with standalones.I run Hondata in my daily driver open loop.I have a wideband O2 in the car but I just use it for tuning.

I could say I live by breathing nitrogen - and I wouldn't be wrong. It would sound wrong though.

Same here - you don't *need* an o2 sensor, but its so easy/cheap to run one, that there's no reason not too. An hour of some tuning and a good IAT-correction function will get you by, but an o2 will get you better gas milage usually.
