transmission swap?
hey guys,
this is my first post here, hopefully of many more to come. my first car, a 94 civic LX, is an automatic, which i would like to take out and install a manual transmission. is this possible to do, and if so, can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much it mught cost in the Baltimore/DC area? i learned how to shift smoothly (finally!
) on an old BMW over the last month or so, and i really like the sporty feel of having to manually shift a car, as most here would agree i suppose. anyways, if anyone can suggest a price range for a basic manual transmission in the DC/Baltimore are, or even suggest a transmission specialist who can do this, if its possible, please let me know. thanks, its very much appreciated. i hope to continue posting here soon. thanks again.

I would just buy a complete D16Z6/Y8, they're pretty cheap maybe $400-600.... Either of those will be a lot easier... Search on here... I just saw a auto to manual post the other day... You could just buy a tranny but you can see how cheap a whole D series VTEC motor... You'll most likely want that tranny unless you don't mind the long gears of the DX/LX/CX that the motor is setup for.... You should be able to do it yourself.... It is possible to swap just a tranny on if you want to... Do the conversions... get the a manual clutch pedal assembly with hard line and slave cylinder... Little few mods on for the shift linkage but nothing big.... You'll need a D series flywheel, clutch, and I personally would look for a D series EX or Si tranny.... The gears are a little tighter and should make the motor feel a bit better.... I did this tranny swap when i was 15 so it really couldn't have been that hard, cuz i didn't know **** back then... hehe... Good Luck
