Default transmission rebuild

My 98' ex is having 3rd and 4th gear transmission problems. my mom (yes mom is spending the cash cuz im a poor college student) needs to know how much its gonna cost just for 3rd and 4th to get new synchros...i might know a tranny guy thatll do it for cheap but i wanna know what kinda pricing am i expecting for the kind of work i need...buying a used tranny is out of the question because its not "trustworth"...btw the car is a 98 civic ex with stock d16y8, 5 speed...about 91 k miles.

just look for a new d16y8 tranny or a d16z6 tranny from 92-00 d series, you can find a used from from 150-300 bucks.

for a trustworthy rebuild, call gear-speed.com. I believe its around 1300 shipped with a 2 year warranty and upgraded synchros (not stock)

if its a car to get you by, keep the grinding one until it dies. If you want to race, replace it.

I'm not understanding why your against a used one, people take out perfectly good tranny's to swap in B series engines.

Exactly. But I don't think he is against it. It sounds like his mom is. But i dont know why. I just bought a used tranny and it only had 7,000 miles on it. Works perfectly good and I can now drive my car again

Mine didn't bug me since they wern't paying for it. The engine swap made them a bit nervous. I just remember my Mom saying "thats a lot bigger engine". b16 vs d16z6.

its goin to be expensive, for a shop to remove it form your car and rebuild it, your probably looking at $1500. Buy a used one and tell her it was just rebuilt. Is she paying for it?
