Transmission Question
I removed the gear housing cause it had a couple of small cracks on it around where it would bolt up to the clutch housing. I figured I would fix it now while it was out before it caused problems later. I took it to a shop and they did a little welding for me. After I got it back though, I wasn't able to get it to close. If I take out the shift forks everything lines up and seals. But with them in, I have just over a 1/2" gap. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it. BTW, the tranny is a 94 JDM H22A w/ factory LSD. Thanks.
Yeah, I bet the springs are causing the shift forks to stop before they go in allt he way... though I don't remember where the notches are on the shift forks for those ***** (if they're near the tops or middle).
Yeah, I have both of them out and I still can't get it to close. I've taken it to a couple of shops and they've run into the same problems. At first I thought that it might be the snap rings but I can't get close enough for it to be. Any other ideas? Thanks.
Sounds like you may be having trouble getting the shift fork shafts to go into the holes in the case. Try shifting it into different gears, I have had a problem where the case would not go together in neutral, but in a certain gear (I don't remember which) the case slid together fairly easily. In neutral, the shafts tend to flop around a little, and don't want to line up.
