Default Transmission question........

i had an idea about making custom transmission... this is kind of wierd... but here goes:

first gear: LS
second gear:GSR
third gear:GSR
fourth gear: B16
fifth gear:B16
final drive:ITR

what do you guys think? tell me if it would work or not.

thanks

What are your goals with this hybrid gearbox? What sort of powerband are you trying to match?

Assuming we're talking about later b-series (92+) transmissions, first gear is the same (exc. 92-93 GSR and B16 Del Sol). 2nd and 3rd should be unique for a 94+ GSR, same as B16 for the 92-93 models. The final drive is the same for all the U.S. VTEC models.

Basically, what you're talking about building is a B16 transmission with slightly longer 2nd and 3rd gears, the benefits of which aren't clear to me.

basically im looking for something to give me alot of speed in the beginning and with the ls first and gsr second in my ls/vtec it would really help out with the mid to top end of the powerband. 4th and 5th are shorter because as well all know, hondas lose thier ***** in the top portion of the gear box. shorter gears up top would keep somehting like this from happening.

but once again... it was like one of those ideas you get when ur taking a **** lol

Its doable but which ITR final drive do you want to use? 4.40 or 4.785?

If you want better acceleration in the lower gears, you should leave them as B16 gears - the longer gears you're talking about won't help you.
The first gear swap won't get you anything, unless you install one from a 92-93 GSR or B16 DelSol (they're the only ones lower than the rest of the b-series line, which are the same).
If you want short gears, swap first (second may have to be swapped too, as they are part of the mainshaft) out for one of these and leave the rest as B16 gears.

Hmm I'm also considering doing something like this, but just sticking in a ls 5th and final for gas mileage reasons. the only problem with your plan would be the fact you'd need to have-

LS, GSR, ITR, and a B-16 transmission, unless you can buy single gears at a time some where.

List of differnt transmission gear ratios kinda interesting to me.

i heard the whole LS 5th gear idea may seem good on paper, but when you really drive a car with a b16 tranny and it has LS 5th, the car looses its nuts up top becuase its struggling bringing the engine to its sweet spot like the b16 or a GSR 5th gear would.....

I got the B-16 tranny now, I think they are really well spaced, however if i just do some head work (already got the ecu to support 9g) then 4th gear will take me past the end of the speedometer and over that is just begging to prove Darwin right. Plus I live in a small town all the hot chicks are a far enough away i want good mileage.
