Default transmission problems...need some expert help.

i have an itr tranny on my car and it just recently went out on me. someone with experience please help me out

-the car is stuck in gear somehow because when you turn on the car it moves even though it seems like its in neutral.

-the shifter wont move to the right(5th and reverse), it just feels like it hits a wall on the right side. the shifter basically feels like it shifts up and down, you dont know what gear your in.

-i took the shifter off and tried to do it manually under the car but it still doesnt work.

have anyone had this problem before or know what can be wrong inside the tranny? i was searching but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. i just want a heads up on what to look for before i take the tranny out and apart. i dont know what exactly happened because i wasnt there; let someone borrow my car. im pretty sure it is due to driver error because my tranny was perfect before

Was the tranny making any noise? Take it apart and see what went wrong. Sounds like maybe a bearing failed and pieces are lodged in the shifter mechanism.

the tranny wasnt making any noise previously. he told me he pulled first gear and second gear on it. but im guessing he probably grinded my gears or something. afterwards when he started the car back up and tried to go home, it jumps forward like its in gear and doesnt go into reverse so he calls the tow truck. so i dont even know what exactly happened because i wasnt there

I agree with falken, something came loose and lodged in there somewhere.

That could be possible. But either way you're gonna have to take it apart

bense right you could try to fix/adjust every single component outside the tranny but it will have to be pulled out and torn apart

You might not have to replace it. The keys or the springs in you tranny. You also might be missing a linkage bolt. Also check to see if you have any oil in your box.

I also doubt that a bearing failed and pieces are lodged in the shifter mechanism.

I am 100% certain, he will not need to replace his tranny. Keys....springs? There are no keys in the B series tranny. He tried to shift the tranny manually....missing linkage bolt....nope. Oil in the box? Oil in the tranny you mean? You can manually shift the tranny with no oil in it.

I see it all the time. Upper mainshaft bearings fail and get lodged all the time.

yes i tried to shift it manually from under the car. same thing. tranny has oil in it forsure. do you have a picture of the upper mainshaft bearing? he told me that he grinded 3rd gear when driving it hard. would that cause the bearing to fail? my buddy has a gsr tranny i can use while i get mine fixed. so your saying it should be a quick fix and i shouldnt replace the tranny?

When you grind a gear really hard it leaves burs that go over the edge of the synchro mesh parts of the selector and hub assembly as it occurs...these burs can lock you into a gear and can be difficult to pull apart since the burs are pushed over the edges and prevent the sleeve from backing out into the neutral position....

Broken shift fork...I highly doubt it...we are talking B series...not cast forks from the D series. Try breaking one....heck just try bending one..LOL!

This has happened to me before. If the guy took the transmission apart recently and it has never shifted correctly then this could be your problem...

The two 'spring plug/bolts' on the bottom side of your tranny that have a steel ball on the other side of the spring are torqued incorrectly. Done this twice. Loosen them a little and see if you can shift normally.

I think it pinches the shifting mechanism and doesn't let it move.

Let me know.

I had something simlar happen as well.. ripped the tranny apart and there are 3 10 or 12mm bolts or cap screws that hold the shifter pin together and 2 of the heads sheared off.. replaced those 2 bolts and every thing was good again... Symptoms are exactly what you posted...
