Transmission limitations?
Hello all and thanks for your time,
First off Im not a Honda guy but Im just starting to learn the basics such as Honda engine codes, wiring for engine swaps, ect.
My question I have for the experts is how are Honda transmissions over? Do they have any common problems? Also how well are they at handling high HP numbers (300-400 range) on a daily driving basis or any other problems that they might have?
Also how many different transmission designs are there along with ratio combinations?
Thanks for your time.
BTW the first person to figure out what brand I drive gets a cookie

the manual trannys are pretty damn stout. autos are not good for high HP.
I run a fully stock Bseries (integra) tranny on my 600HP drag car with 26x10 slicks..
if that tells you anything.
as far as ratios, there are a few options out there, and there are a few available final drives too...
but I really never needed to look to deeply into it...

Thanks for the reply.
Have you had any problems with your transmission at all or has it been smooth sailing? I guess what I meant by “different ratios” was if there were any sought after transmissions that had optimal gear ratios for NA cars Vs boosted or hill climb/autox.
Thanks for the help.

well, depending on power, there are preferred choices...
I like the GSR trans for my power level, since I am at the top of 4th @ 147 in the 1/4.
The b16 and typeR trannys are shorter, and are generally better for NA apps...
The integra LS is the longest of them all...
as far as my tranny goes, Ive had pretty good success I think... Im putting the car back on the street, so I guess we'll see long term life..
