Default Transmission???

Ok I have a B16A2 and I have some difficultie to put my gear in reverse.
My question is ----> Do the reverse gear have a collar to engage the gears like 1-2-3-4-5 or it's another system?

And what make the sound like "grinding" when I put into reverse also I notice that I feel the shifter vibrating... It is the gars or the collar engagement teeth?

Thanks for your help!

No idea about the system but, everyone has that issue with putting there Honda's in reverse.

Just let the car slide forward about a foot and then put it into reverse....or if you have the good old 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty like I do, slam it into reverse

No. The shifting mechanism of the 1-2-3-4-5 is not the same.
Your problem is probably the reverse shift holder (shift fork) and/or reverse idler gear (reverse gear).
The shift fork is probably worn and your gear is following soon or already gone too.
If you take the tanny off the car it's very easy to open it up and check the specs and replace it/them. Check prices for the parts first.
If you need specs for the shift fork width or the clearance between the reverse idler gear & the reverse shift fork, I can get them for you.
The grinding is from the gear. = Not good!
Try turning the car off before shifting and back on after you are in gear. That will put less stress on the gear it self.

Good luck!

its pretty hard to bust reverse- it is the biggest gear in the trans. you have a better chance breaking the leaver...
do what was said above; put it in first, then try for reverse- rock it back and forth.
after all, the counter reverse is on the first/second slider

Ok !
What you mean is the reverse gear is moving bu the shift fork?
I read in a magazine that all gears are together 5 on bearing and 5 on the shaft.
So you tell me the reverse gars is not on bearing?

The reverse gear is the one all the way on the left side of the picture. The short shaft with the single gear on it. If you have a picture of the other side you can also see the shift fork that moves this gear up & down.
I'll see if I can find you a better picture.

I have that problem a lot too. Even my friend with the 99 si. He gets a crunch too whenever he places the car in reverse after starting the car. I just put the car in reverse gear first, then start the car.
