B16 tranny with about 76k miles, won't go into reverse AT ALL. Doesn't grind or anything, it just won't go in. 1-5 gears are fine, no grinds at all. It has a cheap XTD 6 puck clutch with about 5k miles on it, and old *** ORIGINAL throw out bearing. Could it be my throw out bearing or is my tranny fuked?

 

Ok, so I got it to go in reverse. But i have to slam it into reverse and the reverse lights don't even turn on. Then I have to slam it out of reverse. When I put it in 1st and let go kinda hard, I hear the throw out bearing. Hope that helps.

hey dude im having the same problem i just swapped my tranny and 1-5 are fine but no reverse at all! mines a d16 tranny tho

 

open up the trans if u feel brave and see whats goin on.. reverse is easy to spot inside there.

 

ya i dont really want to do all that...but i been searching alot and found that alot people on this are having the same problem... but i cant find a solution for it

 

Does the stick have to over extend to get it into reverse or does it give you lots of resistance to moving to the reverse position?

What do you men by slamming like a quick thrust into the reverse position on the lever?


I would check the linkage to the tranny. Maybe something is making it bind.

Thy engaging the clutch a little when trying to engage reverse. My tiburon has a stubborn reverse as well and that is what usually lets me in,

this is an old thread but brought back. i have my tranny apart and from what im looking at it seems the the reverse idler gear is to big to slip on the drive shaft reverse gear. it will barely grab the gear but i can not get it on there good. i am going to pull the whole gear selector out next. any thought real quick i was having the exact same problem as the rest of these guys

 

i have the same issue of 1-5 gears working perfectly and i cant put it in reverse even when the car is off. completely resistant, shift linkage is good. im stumped but dont want to pull the tranny yet.
