Default Tranny: The truth about synchros?

Hey guys,
My tranny works perfect but It seems like my 2-3 synchro is out. It mis shifts everytime i'm near redline (2-3 only)

I was told the you cannot just change synchros... you have to buy the whole assembly inlcuding gears etc. ($500+USD)

So my question is:
Is this true(synchros)? price sound right?
Can you buy stronger/heavyduty synchros/gears?

(I dont wanna buy a used tranny... i've bought one from a del sol vtec that's siezed inside and now i gotta return it :crook

Unless the lack of synchro damaged something, there is nothing else to replace. Call a Honda dealership and ask what just the synchro cost, that is where the shop has to buy it from.

The shifter forks should be replaced as well...

Part of the synchro is actually part of the gear- so yes it will be pricey. I would also recommend replacing your input shaft bearings at the same time- or at least the front bearing.

in all honda trans you have to buy the gear set to get the syncro/ yours will need 3rd gear set. about $175 for the parts plus installation

sorry about bad info, I must of been thinking of something else. I have a y1 now and pretty much all of my synchros are gone, so I am just going to start over. but good luck anyway.

Ok, that sounds about right.

If the tranny is cracked open, can you see physically if other synchro/gear sets would have to be replaced too? 4-5 also grinds ocasionally.

TIA guys.

I have heard that the upper gears, the synchros go first. My 5th is much worse than 3rd. Anybody verify that?

whichever gears are abused most will go first- I know that in older accords (86-89) if they were low on oil 5th went out first.
