Default tranny question

i got a silly question. those 2 12mm bolts on the bottom of the tranny that have the spring and ball bearing behind them, what do they do??? when i tore into my tranny last yr to put in the JDM FD i found that one of the ***** had implanted itself into the end of the bolt. so i replaced it with a spare i had.
today i ripped apart my tranny to install my richmond spool and found another one like it. what in the hell does this mean??? am i just rough on trannies??? let me know.

if we're on the same page, then they are called the lock ball assembly, when you take the bolt out does the ball come first and then the spring, or does the spring come first and then the ball, because it should be the spring then ball. (just incase you dont know) the lock ball assembly is forced into the inner shift lever to provide a shift feeling and prevent gear slip out. im not sure how the ball is implanting itself into the bolt, but if this helps then i wish you the best man. good luck

The 2 ball bearings "index" 2 shift forks , the 3rd/4th and 5th/reverse shfit forks. That's what gives the Hydro trannies a "jointy" or positive feel when you shift as opposed to ealier cable trannies that didn't have this indexing ball bearings.

There are 3 notches for the ball bearings. 3 postions (up, neutral, and down)

If the ball bearing is getting jammed into the bolt I would replace the washer on the bolt to give the ball a little more room to worik.
