all forward gears are fine, they go in like butter but when i shift into reverse it wont slip into gear. i tried ******* around with the linkage but still no reverse. maybe its my synchros? does anyone know what is up? can sumone out there give me a website or know any books that show the exact diagram of a itr tranny. thanx in advance.

 

if you see rocket on the board ...hit him up he may have a more definate idea ....my car does a similar thing ...it either gets stuck in reverse ....and wont come out ...or it wont go in to begin with .....its probably your 5th/reverse synchro .....and yes that is the tranny

 

Mr. Sleeper is your tranny a 92+ B-series. These trannies have a synchroed reverse and if the syncro teeth are rounded it can be hard for the sleeve to slide into place.

Try putting the tranny into say third before shifting into reverse.

I've also seen some pretty beat reverse gears.

Also check your tranny fluid level since the reverse and 5th gear synchro have less exposure to tranny fluid.

rocket, my tranny is a 97' jdm itr tranny. i've tried all those things u mentioned with no luck. do u know any websites or books that show and explain a b-series trannies(diagrams etc). my mechanic and me are going to open it up tomorrow. thanx in advance.

 

Actually the 5th/R syncro / sleeve set (whatever you want to call it)...maybe. Granted the 5th/R fork is pretty strong, but that could be a problem also. If you go in and replace the 5th/R syncro, go ahead and replace the 3rd/4th also, it is usually the one that goes first. My bet is syncro and maybe the fork. Good luck...

 

Get a Helms and it will be the start of a beautiful relationship. It will also save you money in the long run.

 

actually this juss happned too me like a 2 weeks ago... my car would not go into reverse but all my other gears would go in perfect... i thought it mighta been the shift linkage but it was not, so i took it in and they opened up my tranny, and it was my 5th synchro that was messed up and a hub that was broke so thats why it would not go into reverse pickin up my car tommorrow, took adavantage of havin my tranny opened up and got me a stage 3 clutch but it cost around 500 too fix my tranny.. hope that helps
