how are you guys doing today? My cousin is having a problem with his tranny, it is making like an unusual ticking noise. We arent sure what it could be? We think it might be his throw out bearing but we dont know for sure. I know the only way to be sure is to crack open the tranny and look but that cost money and he doesnt want to spend it unless he really has to. Any input would be helpful.

how does the ticking sound?get louder with rpms? speed? clutch in/out....

 

It sounds like a consistant tick that only really happens at idle. When you drive it, it sputters almost like it wants to stall out. And it happens when he tries to turn and accelerate not when he goes straight. He said if he backs up straight disengages the clutch and then turns it doesnt do it.

 

why dont you have your cousin drain the tranny fluid with a paint strainer that you can get from a local parts store and see if there are any shavings in the oil, and if so there may be some trouble and may need too be opened..

 

sounds like spider gears in the dif are broken if it only does it when you turn may be time for lsd !!
